Foot Facts Continued….. Only a small percentage of the population is born with foot problems.  It's neglect and a lack of awareness of proper care - especially improperly fitted shoes - that bring on problems. Women have about four times as many foot problems as men. High heels are partly to blame. MediNail Learning Center

It also contributes to your general health by improving circulation, contributing to weight control, and promoting all-around well being. Your feet mirror your general health . Conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, nerve and circulatory disorders can show their initial symptoms in the feet - so foot ailments can be your first sign of more serious medical problems. Getting Close to the End of Foot Facts :

Getting Close to the End of Foot Facts There are 250,000 sweat glands in a pair of feet. Sweat glands in the feet excrete as much as a half-pint of moisture a day. Walking barefoot can result in acquiring plantar warts. The virus enters by a cut or skin fissure. In the majority of cases, your two feet are different sizes. Fit the larger one. About 5% of Americans have toenail problems in a given year. MediNail Learning Center

Almost the End of Final Foot Facts :

Almost the End of Final Foot Facts When walking, you place about 2-3 times your body weight in pressure on your feet. When running, you place about 7 times your body weight in pressure on your feet. (Poor feet.) * Note: 200 lb man = 1400 lbs! running Arthritis is the number one cause of disability in America . Topic 1 Introduction to Podiatry and Biomechanics “The Physics of the Foot” MediNail Learning Center

Some Health problems are Foot Related :

Some Health problems are Foot Related The stability of your feet can have a profound effect on other areas of your body. Feet provide the base of support for you entire body. Even a small misalignment can disturb your framework.  A Stable foot must have a well defined arch with proper muscle position to provide a rigid lever for maximum power and propulsion during ”toe off” MediNail Learning Center

Daily Statement Podiatrists Hear: :

Daily Statement Podiatrists Hear: WHEN YOUR FEET HURT..... ……. YOU HURT ALL OVER MediNail Learning Center

Why do you hurt all over? :

Why do you hurt all over? If the foundation of your feet is bad..... YOU TILT = Pressure on your spine or vertebral bones and eventually your spinal nerves causing back or neck pain. MediNail Learning Center

Why do you tilt (in) i.e. pronate? :

Why do you tilt (in) i.e. pronate? Your foot may roll in excessively. This is called Over Pronation ……. side view MediNail Learning Center

Some Pronation is a Normal Part of Walking, but OVER-PRONATION is Not! :

Some Pronation is a Normal Part of Walking, but OVER-PRONATION is Not! MediNail Learning Center

Question: Is all Pronation Bad? :

Question: Is all Pronation Bad? Answer: NO Some Pronation is a necessary part of normal gait or walking. A certain amount of pronation absorbs ground forces and helps the foot as well as the body absorb shock. Over Pronation occurs when the joint rolls too far past subtalar neutral position or when the navicular bone hits the ground MediNail Learning Center

What does Over-Pronation look like? :

What does Over-Pronation look like? “Navicular Strike” - When the foot rolls in to the degree that the navicular bone touches the ground. Callus can occur here. "Valgus Heel"-  When the heel is not longer in midline with the achilles heel.  Valgus heel means the heel "rolls out" “Too Many Toes Sign”  If viewed from the rear of the body you see more than 1 1/2 toes.
