Joel Iwataki “ Sound Engineer “

Born in New York City in 1951, Joel Iwataki left school at nineteen to pursue a career as a commercial fisherman in Alaska, skippering a boat he built and running a small clam cannery in the Prince William Sound.

Slide 4:

He returned to California to study music at the Grove School in Los Angeles and composition and orchestration with film composers’ ìAlbert Harris and Richard Markowitz.

Slide 5:

Joel Iwataki has been nominated for many awards and has won Primetime Emmy Awards, Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Variety or Music Series or Special XIX Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony (2002).

Slide 6:

J Joel Iwataki has also worked as a music producer for Othello: suite from the ballet Varèse Sarabande and Juan Darien: a carnival mass Sony Classical.

Slide 7:

Joel Iwataki served on the board of the Pacific Composers Forum in Los Angeles from 1987-1990 and composed music for 2 musicals: “Canton Jazz Club”, produced at East West Players in Los Angeles in 1991 and “Beijing Spring” produced at East West Players in 1996 and again in a revival in 2006.

On hearing Joel Iwataki's scores other composers would ask him to help mix their projects. After meeting the great film composer Elliot Goldenthal , Joel made film score mixing his career.
