Haverford Sent 2 math teachers to the October 28th Collaboration Day 4 social studies teachers to the February 20th Collaboration Day 3 science teachers to the March 5th Collaboration Day 3 English teachers to the April 20th Collaboration Day Teachers share what they learned at the IU so that all can benefit. Collaboration Instructional Changes : Instructional Changes Students are engaged in their work through the interactions with the Internet Access to information forces teachers to ask higher order thinking questions When students have laptops in their classes it is harder to ask who and what questions. Teachers have created websites which are utilized by students both during and after school Different Stages of Teachers : Different Stages of Teachers Teachers entered the CFF program with differing abilities Some teachers had advanced knowledge of the technology while others were beginners The professional development of the teachers has focused on thinking about 21st century skills for students As a school we have focused on increasing technological abilities Slide 23: Mike Mullen uses a wiki page with his AP Humanities students. His students use the page to post, respond and revise writing assignments, participate in literature discussions, and post webcasts Haverford's newest science teacher Jeremy Tomaszewski uses his wiki page to engage students in online lab simulations. Jennifer Ward uses a webpage, Ning, Google Group, and wiki page to interact with students and staff. Joe Taraborrelli uses a blog to get his 9th grade Western Civ. and American Government students reading and responding to each other. Math teacher Steve Peterson uses a wiki page to make sure students and parents know the expectations of his courses, the standards his students are expected to master, and where they can find enrichment activities Dave McCauley uses his wiki page to help students stay organized , and connect with students studying similar content in other classes Slide 24: "I have changed in the sense that current data is available to the students and I have used YouTube frequently to show students real life scenes from other cultures." "I think we can see success simply by the reports of CFF teachers that students worked more in-depth, or more efficiently, having some flexibility in how they produce work, or approach various assignments. Simply by virtue of having the daily access to the laptops and the ability to spontaneously use them for any educational reason, the program is a success." "[Students] have been able to better visualize things using the interactive board. They also can collaborate with each other better from home with the class wiki." "I have been able to enhance and clarify concepts like never before for the class. We have had the chance to use a number of online resources and simulations in Biology that have really led to increased student understanding and retention of some more challenging abstract concepts- things like karyotyping of chromosomes and DNA base pairing."
