PLOT :

PLOT a sequence of events that make up a story related to a conflict The plot generally consists of five parts: Exposition Rising Action Climax Falling Action Resolution

EXPOSITION :

EXPOSITION The exposition consists of background information provided at the start of a story. This information is usually essential to understanding the story and may include the setting, the characters, and/or the basic conflict. A conflict is defined as a struggle between opposing forces. In literature, conflict can be internal or external. Internal conflict is referred to as Man v. Self. External conflicts can include Man v. Man, Man v. Nature,or Man v. Society.

RISING ACTION :

RISING ACTION The rising action generally includes various obstacles which further complicate the basic conflict of the story. Often, authors will use events of the rising action to build suspense.

CLIMAX :

CLIMAX The climax is the point of highest interest in the story. It is during the climax that the basic conflict reaches its height of excitement. It is also a turning point for the protagonist.

FALLING ACTION :

FALLING ACTION The falling action is the point in the story where the major conflict between the protagonist and antagonist is unraveled. It occurs immediately after the climax and may keep the reader in suspense as to whether the protagonist will come out on top.

RESOLUTION :

RESOLUTION The resolution is the way in which the main conflict is resolved. At this point, the short story ends.
