MapleWhy is Assistive Technology Needed?: Why is Assistive Technology Needed? Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) created in 1997, for children to receive a fair Education. For every child who has an IEP, that child should also have an Assistive Technology Evaluation to help him/her meet all their difficulties.Why is Assistive Technology Needed? : Why is Assistive Technology Needed? To aide in children’s goals outlined in their IEP and assist with overcoming difficulties of meeting targeted goal. To provide the best opportunity for all individuals to grow within his/her naturally environment. To assist students with the most equal chance to understand curriculum requirements. Assistive Technology Evaluations: Assistive Technology Evaluations First, consideration for the student and his/her needs must be determined. This is done by a child study team, the parents, and the individual. Data, and information about the individual is gathered, along with reachable goals and software's designed to assist the areas that a individual may need help. Assistive Technology Evaluations: Assistive Technology Evaluations What measurable expectations can be obtained in a guided time frame? What devise or devises will be used to assist with the goals that are set? Who will be evaluating the targets and over what period of time? What will be tried if the targets are not met by the individual or the technology?What Technologies Will We Use?: What Technologies Will We Use? Devices for the hearing impaired Magnified screens and/or glare reducing screens to assist visions problems. Voice recognition software’s to turn on/off the computer, and write text from spoken words. Braille devices for typing and taking notes.What Technologies Will We Use?: What Technologies Will We Use? Alternative keyboards to help with typing and using function keys. Joysticks and scanning keyboards to help navigate around documents and screen. Hands free pointers and voice recorders to move curser and record words and dialect. Orthopedic impairment devices to assist with muscular imbalances.How will we use it, how will we teach others to use it?: How will we use it, how will we teach others to use it? Training is required before introduction to students to assist with any difficulties that may arrive. Training is also needed to teach students the how to, and the how to correct any misstates. Technical support will be needed to meet the needs of any disabled machinery or software.Building Confidence: Building Confidence Children and adults that have a disability need Assistive Technology to help build self confidence, become productive, and be included with peers and others. Individuals with disabilities have the ability to learn and should be given access to any assistive technologies that can help meet their needs.Can we Include the Children with disabilities?: Can we Include the Children with disabilities? With training, all teachers can teach children with disabilities. We have the technology needed to assist and meet the needs of almost all disabilities we have encountered. We all have self-efficacy, and we all have multiple intelligence, we all learn differently, but we all learn.Can we Include the Children with disabilities?: Can we Include the Children with disabilities? The answer is yes, we can include them by teaching the disabled how to overcome any disability, or adversity. With the technologies we have invested in and created, lets not waste the funding, the effort, and the approvals. When we have given an opportunity to anyone wanting to be included in activities with their peers. When we have followed the acts approved by congress.
