Comparison: Wood ticks vs. Brown dog ticks:

Comparison: Wood ticks vs. Brown dog ticks WOOD TICKS BROWN DOG TICKS The wood ticks infest dogs when they venture deep into woods or fields. They are those kind of ticks which can grow in population during the colder climates. They could be carried indoors by your pets but they thrive inside covered areas rarely. What are BANANAS?:

What are BANANAS? Bananas are packaged in their yellow jackets and they are an all-year round fruit because they can be harvested anytime. As for the uses, Bananas can be both used for medicinal and personal care. BANANA PEELS are known for its antifungal and antibiotic properties. Also, they are loaded with fiber, Vitamins and Minerals. CHAPTER 1: PART 1 of 6

FUTURE RESEARCHERS Researcher’s RECOMMENDATION: The research must be expanded regarding the use of Musa sapientum as an alternative ingredient in making a shampoo against dog’s ticks and fleas and to improve the mixture by adding more water for easy pouring. CHAPTER 1: PART 4 of 6 Significance of the Study

SCOPE and LIMITATION:

SCOPE and LIMITATION Concern and focus: It was limited only to the peel powder extract of Musa sapientum which was used as one of the ingredients in making an alternative shampoo against dog’s ticks and fleas. What did the researcher do (1 st Experimentation): Ten dogs were experimented using 100 mL of shampoo and were used three times a week for a period of 1 week. Place of experimentation: North Fairview, Quezon City and 2 households in Villa Magdalena 2, Camarin, Caloocan City CHAPTER 1: PART 5 of 6

SCOPE and LIMITATION:

SCOPE and LIMITATION What did the researcher do (2 nd Experimentation) Dogs were shampooed using 20 mL of banana peel liquefied powder shampoo diluted in 20 mL of water. Place of the experimentation: It took place in a community in Fairview, Quezon City. The researcher used Askal breed as the experimental subject because their skin is not sensitive. CHAPTER 3 Research Design Research Setting Research Subject Experimental Proper

Research Design :

Research Design This study utilized the experimental method of research using standard laboratory procedures involved in making a shampoo made out of Musa sapientum Linn. Liquefied Peel Powder extract. CHAPTER 3: PART 1 of 4

Research Setting:

Research Setting The banana peels collected were from the banana plants that were grown in front of our house in Villa Magdalena 2, Camarin, Caloocan City. Also, banana peels were cut into small pieces, sundried and pounded to come up with a banana peel powder in the same place. Extraction and shampoo making made out of powdered banana peels which was liquefied were executed in the Biology Thesis Laboratory Room located at the 7 th floor of College of Arts and Sciences in Our Lady of Fatima University, Quezon City. CHAPTER 3: PART 2 of 4

Research Setting:

Research Setting The successful experimentation was in a household in 2 different locations: One in Villa Magdalena 2, Camarin, Caloocan City and the other one in Fairview, Quezon City. Successful re-experimentation followed after wherein 2 dogs were experimented in 2 particular households in Fairview, Quezon City. Chemicals and ingredients in this thesis experimentation were bought from a Chemodities Marketing which can be found in Bambang, Sta. Cruz, Manila. CHAPTER 3: PART 2 of 4

Experimental Proper Shampoo Making using the Banana Peel Powder Extract Procedures: In a pot, place 1-quart (or about 946 mL) of water and let it boil in a medium heat. Once the water starts to boil in a medium heat, add the grated castile soap. Stir and mix the water and castile soap using a wooden spatula. Once the water and castile soap is mixed and dissolved, add in the borax, glycerine and mayonnaise. Continue stirring for 15 more minutes. CHAPTER 3: PART 4 of 4

Experimental Proper:

Experimental Proper Shampoo Making using the Banana Peel Powder Extract Procedures (continued): Add the banana peel powder, extracted and liquefied, to the mixture. Stir it for the last 15 minutes. Turn off the stove and continue stirring it until the mixture is cooled off. Place the shampoo mixture in an empty water bottle with a capacity of 1000 mL. Let it stay in a darker room for a month for aging process. CHAPTER 3: PART 4 of 4

Table Interpretation:

Table Interpretation Characteristics/Findings Kokoy Potchie Food eaten Left-overs Left-overs Infestation of Ticks Mildly infested Severely infested Number of Ticks Gathered Less than 15 ticks More than 25 ticks Health of Dog after it was shampooed Very healthy Very healthy

Text Interpretation:

Text Interpretation Based on the previous slide (slide 53) and on the video presentation, it has been observed that 2 dogs have a very healthy condition before, during and after shampooing. Kokoy (owner: Mr. Francisco Palmero) and Potchie (owner: Mrs. Magdalena Aguinaldo) told to the researcher that the food eaten by the dogs are those left-overs. Regarding on the infestation of ticks: Kokoy has a mild infestation while Potchie had a severe infestation because most of the ticks are found in the paws.

CHAPTER 5 SUMMARY OF FINDINGS CONCLUSIONS RECOMMENDATIONS

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS:

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS This thesis study wanted to find out if the shampoo made out of Musa sapientum Linn. l iquefied peel powder was an effective alternative shampoo against ticks (which are available all-year-round) and fleas (which are only available during summer season) This thesis study utilized the experimental method of research, which is literally focused on the natural remedies for the elimination of ticks and fleas. CHAPTER 5: PART 1 of 3

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS:

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS This thesis study also showed that one of the chemicals found in Musa sapientum which can have the possibility of killing the ticks and fleas is the hydrogen cyanide. Note: The hydrogen cyanide which is one of the chemical components of Musa sapientum has a use and that’s for the addition of ingredients in the fumigants. CHAPTER 5: PART 1 of 3

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS:

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS This thesis study also showed that the shampoo will be economical for the pet owners. This thesis study also showed that 2 of the dogs experimented were healthy after the shampoo processes was made and most of the ticks gathered were in the nymphal stage from a certain dog. This thesis study also showed that when the shampoo was diluted in water, it will make the shampoo more bubblier. CHAPTER 5: PART 1 of 3

CONCLUSIONS:

CONCLUSIONS After the experimentation process, it was found out that the dogs experimented during the shampoo process on-location at Fairview, Quezon City were much healthy and it has found out that the shampoo was found effective.
