Other Common Expressions On the house: free For example: These french fries are on the house.

On the side: It tells your server that you want something, but you don’t want it on or in your main dish.

Special : 

Special Noun: It is an item that is usually not on the menu. It is also different every day. For example: “Today’s special is grilled chicken.”

Service: Used to describe the good or bad job the server did at your table

For example, if you think the server is quick and friendly, you would say: “The service was good.”

Tip: Extra money you give to the server if the service is good. Usually 15 – 20%
