Chapter 25: Counselors negative reactions to couples Key virtue: Humility of counselor. We all dislike clients sometimes Some people make it hard to like them Discuss things you have seen, or expect to see in couples that would cause many counselors to feel negatively towards the couple or client. Is this about the counselor’s personal issues? Is this bad or rude behavior unique to their relationship, or extend to all their relationships?

If the counselor likes one partner better than the other- it has poor outcomes, and could cause harm If the counselor dislikes the couple, then the dynamic is often the counselor as “parental” which traps the couple & prevents them from growing and changing
