Multiple Intelligences Theory:

Multiple Intelligences Theory Theorist: Howard Gardner Developed in the 1980s. Explains how the mind works. Not an education policy. Many different intelligences, not just IQ. Creates a intelligence profile.

Profile Students, Don’t Score Them:

Profile Students, Don’t Score Them Laser Profiles 1 or 2 strong intelligences. Single area of interests. Clear path for the future. Teacher’s Conflict Accentuate strengths OR Develop weaknesses

Profiles continued…:

Profiles continued… Searchlight Profiles Minimal differences in intelligences. Many areas of interest. Many career paths. School’s focus on logical- mathematical/ linguistics.

An Internal Orchestra:

An Internal Orchestra Interference Conflict between intelligences. Compensation An intelligence compensates for another. Enhancement One intelligence jumpstarts another.

An Effective Ensemble:

An Effective Ensemble Collaboration in the classroom. Combine strengths and weaknesses. Combine complementary profiles.

Provide Rich Experiences:

Provide Rich Experiences From psychologist L.S. Vygotsky’s work on constructivism. Experience is important to development. Different experiences based on individual profiles. Create one lesson/activity to engage in personally. May be cross-curricular.
