W. Hunt there are six adjectives for describing Christ’s ideal of the mind. Alive Peaceful Single-minded Lowly Pure Sensitive and Responsive By understanding how the brain works and these six principles, we can become closer to God and the world around us.Slide 3: “For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace.” (Romans 8:6)Alive: Alive The brain is alive and constantly active, therefore we must be active in our efforts to live in peace. I find that I focus on life and peace in an effort to be closer to the Spirit. I live each day to the fullest and look for the positive in all I see.Slide 5: “The mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.” (Romans 8:5)Peaceful: Peaceful God brings me peace during my time of rest. Each night I set aside time to quiet my mind and reflect. I pray and converse with God and together we come to amazing conclusions. Without peace and rest I would not be an effective teacher. Memory development and learning take place during rest. The brain has time to focus on developing connections between neurons.Slide 7: “But I am afraid, lest the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds should be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ.” (Corinthians, 11:3)Single-minded: Single-minded Single-mindedness takes time and practice to master. As presented by Jill Bolte Taylor, the brain is made of two hemispheres, two minds working together. We must take time to live in our right-brain to see the beauty and simplicity in our world. I must take time to reflect and become single-minded so that I can give my whole self to the Lord.Slide 9: “Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.” (Philippians, 2:3)Lowly: Lowly Humility is a quality we can strive towards. The brain is a wonderful miracle that we have yet to understand. As presented by Gero Miesenboeck , by understanding and controlling its functions, we are slowly learning more about the brain. Let us be thankful for the knowledge we have and the drive to learn more.Slide 11: “To the pure, all things are pure; but to those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure, but both their mind and their conscience are defiled.” (Titus, 1:15)Pure: Pure The brain’s reticular activating system (RAS) filters out unnecessary information. This allows us to actively focus only on the pure and the positive. I thank God that He has given me this internal set of blinders so that I can live my life with peace and happiness.Slide 13: “Lord teach us to pray.” (Luke 11:1)Sensitive and Responsive: Sensitive and Responsive Just like memorization and learning, spiritual growth needs time for reflection and absorption. Slow down and open your heart and mind to the Lord. Be sensitive and responsive to His teachings and the world He created. Be sensitive to your needs so that you can be responsive to others.Resources: Resources Bolte Taylor, J. (Actor). (2011). Jill Bolte Taylor's Stroke of Insight [Web].
