7th Grade Life Science :

7th Grade Life Science 1. f. Students know that as multicellular organisms develop, their cells differentiate. How do our cells know to be blood cells, brain cells, kidney cells? Let’s take a look at how SMART they are! 10/18/2010 J. Updyke 2

Cellular Differentiation is… :

Cellular Differentiation is… The process by which cells become specialized (they do a certain job and look a certain way). Occurs many times when a zygote (fertilized egg) of a multicellular organism develops into tissues. Different cells can have very different physical characteristics despite having the same DNA. 10/18/2010 J. Updyke 4

REMEMBER… :

REMEMBER… Cells make up tissue Tissue makes up organs Organs make up organ systems Organ systems make up an organism! 10/18/2010 J. Updyke 5
