Music and Arts belong to four separate subjects considered as one- MAPEH. Each has a separate curriculum Guide with distinct goals, standards, competencies and content. The Legal basis of the teaching of Music and Arts It’s a declared policy of the state to “give priority to education, science and technology, arts, culture and sports to foster patriotism and nationalism , accelerate social progress and promote total human liberation and development” Article II, section 17

Likewise, Article XIV on education, science and technology, arts, culture and sports of Philippines states, to wit: The state shall foster the preservation, enrichment, and dynamic evolution o f a Filipino national culture based on the principle o f unity in diversity a climate of free artistic and intellectual expression. Sec. 14 Arts and letters shall enjoy the patronage of the state. The state shall conserve , promote and popularize the nation’s historical and cultural heritage and resources, as well as artistic creations… Sec. 15 The state shall recognize, respect and protect the rights of indigenous cultural communities, to preserve and develop their cultures, traditions and institutions. It shall consider these rights in the formulation of national pans and policies.. Sec. 17 The state shall encourage and support researches and studies on arts and culture.. Sec. 18

The Goals and intended outcomes for the teaching of music and Arts.. “Both Music and arts curricula focus on the learner as recipient of knowledge, skills and values necessary for artistic expression and cultural literacy.” Artistic Expression- peoples way of creatively revealing their selves. Cultural literacy- learner's taking pride of their culture. Standards for Music Teaching Learning Area standard for Music: The learner demonstrates understanding of basic concepts and processes in music.. Through appreciation, analysis and performance for his/her self development, celebration of his/her Filipino cultural identity and diversity and expansion of his/ her world vision.

K-3 4-6 7-10 The learner demonstrates understanding of fundamental processes through performing, creating and responding, aimed towards the development of appreciation of music.. And acquisition of basic knowledge and skills. The learner demonstrates understanding of basic elements and concepts through performing, creating and responding, aimed towards the development of appreciation of music…, and acquisition of basic knowledge and skills. The learner demonstrates understanding of salient features of music.. Of the Philippines and the worlds, through appreciation, analysis and performance for self-development, the celebration of Filipino cultural identity and diversity and the expansion of one’s world vision. Grade 2 The learner demonstrates understanding of the basic and fundamental processes in music.. Through performing, creating listening and observing and responding. Grade 3 The learner has acquired the basic fundamental processes through performing, creating listening and observing and responding towards the development of appreciation of music.. And the acquisition of basic knowledge and skills. Grade 4 Through the formal introduction of elements, the learner can identify the basic knowledge and skills in music.. Towards self development, the celebration of Filipino cultural identity and diversity, and the expansion of one’s world vision.

Grade 9 The learner demonstrates understanding of salient features of western music.. From different historical periods, through appreciation, analysis and performance for self-development, the celebration of Filipino cultural identity and diversity and expansion of one’s world vision. Grade 1o The learner demonstrates understanding of salient features of contemporary music.. Through appreciation, analysis and performance fro self-development, the celebration of Filipino cultural identity and diversity, the expansion of one’s world vision.

Positive effects of music Improve verbal IQ Benefits of learning an instrument are not purely musical but extend into cognition and visual perception. b. Feeling the chills ^ ^ -In the study people high in openness to experience were more likely to play a musical instrument. c. Active listening amps up happiness Engagement in music gives us experience extra emotional power d. Singing together brings us together Since music is often a social; activity, making it together can help bring us together. e. Music treats heart disease Listening to music reduced heart rate, blood pressure and anxiety.

Seeing happy faces Music can change the way you judge peoples faces h. The color of music Music makes people think of certain colors. Music could bring back your vision When patients listen to their favorite music, some of their visual attention is restored. j. Babies respond to music - Infants find it more interesting to listen on music than speech.
