Prologue: :Prologue: The Age of Jackson represented the democratization of US politics. Jackson was a speculator who moved to the West and profited greatly off selling lands to new frontier settlers. Jackson was a self-made man who had a sizable estate, represented by the fact that he had over 100 slaves on his Tennessee plantation. Jackson embodied this democratization of the US, largely because he embodied the new West. Starting with the election of 1820, the West began to play a strong roll in the politics on the nation.
