History of the Mission San Diego The history of my mission. There was a Indian tribe that lived near the mission. The Indian tribe that was there was the Kumeyaay. This tribe lived near the San Diego River. Fray Junipero Serra the founder. This was his first mission his that he found. Fray was born on November 24 th 1713, in Majorca, Spain. He was a small man and often weak or sickly. He became a priest in 1737. He also taught philosophy for 12 years. He died on August 28 th ,1784 at mission San Carlos Borromeo del Rio Carmelo.
