Facts About Mission San Jose 14 th Mission Found June 11, 1797 Found by Father Fermin Lausuen Named After Saint Joseph Location: Northeast of the City of San Jose on State Highway 21 Was built six years after the 13 th Mission

The California Indians:

The California Indians The Ohlone tribe lived long before there was a San Francisco. They hunted deer, antelope, geese, and ducks. They eat acorns or grind the acorns into flour for making bread and porridge. Each village had 50 to several hundred Indians. The men were very skillful. All the weapons were made of wood.

Troubles at The San Jose :

Troubles at The San Jose In the mission, each Indian had food, shelter, and protection. Then the Indians didn’t have freedom anymore and be forced to give up their way of life. Many neophytes tried to run away, others just stayed. Indians revolted at many of the missions, but the biggest problem was that San Jose Mission was in a threat of diseases.

Neighboring Mission The first closest mission is the 8 th mission, Santa Clara. The second closest is the 15 th mission, San Juan Bautista.
