Facts about South Carolina South Carolina was found on May 23,1788. South Carolina got its name from King Charles in a town called Carolus, then his son changed it to South Carolina. South Carolina is in the Mountain Region.

History of South Carolina:

History of South Carolina English settlement was made in 1670 at Albermarle Point, but poor conditions drove the settlement to Charleston, originally called Charles Town. South Carolina was the first to secede from the union before the Civil War in 1861 . King Charles sent eight nobles and a royal charter . The Catawaba, Pee Dee, Chicora, Edisto, and Santee Indians are still present in South Carolina today.

Bordering States North Carolina and Georgia are the bordering states of South Carolina.

South Carolina’s quarter:
