Facts The San Jose Mission as the 14 th of 21 missions. It as founded on July 11 th 1797 by Father Fermin Lasuen. The San Jose mission was named for Saint Joseph. It is located in the town of Mission San Jose which is located 15 min. northeast of San Jose.
History :
History First of five additional missions Father Lasuen was granted permission to build. He wanted to make the missions one days journey away from another so they could be a safe rest stop for people traveling along El Camino Real. The location of this mission was troublesome because it was near hostile indians.
