Only males heard cattle…no work for women Jewelry Making : Jewelry Making Maasai women possess the skill to make highly coveted jewelry. Jewelry making provides the women a chance to contribute to their families monetary input. The Solution…The Maasai Business Institute : The Solution…The Maasai Business Institute To set up schools for Maasai women to learn business practices and computer skills. This will enable them to sell their jewelry at fair market value. Knowledge is power. With that knowledge the Maasai women can improve their families financial situations. Teach the Maasai the way to maximize the monetary potential of their extraordinary products. Problem with current way of selling : Problem with current way of selling Their Jewelry is being bought in bulk at very low prices and sold online for much higher. Tourists negotiate with them when they visit the Maasai villages. This leaves them at the mercy of the tourists. Lack of education prohibits the Maasai from getting fair market value for their jewelry. Our Schools : Our Schools ---The schools will be equipped with necessary resources such as computers, printers, and many other technological amenities. ---We will provide the school with used equipment from some of America’s finest Universities. Who’s Going Teach??? : Who’s Going Teach??? The business and technology classes will be taught by Penn State Education and Business majors as part of a study abroad internship. This will be provide valuable real world experience as well as a feeling of doing good for someone that has not been provided the same opportunities in life that you may take for granted. Final Thoughts : Final Thoughts Women of Maasai have not been thought of as a potential earners of money. Patriarchal society Gender equality is a problem.
