ROLE OF LISTENING:

ROLE OF LISTENING Listening involves not only recognizing unit boundaries of sound but also the recognization of problems ,pauses, hesitation, innovation and rhythm pattern. We do not listen just with ears you listen to your eyes and with your sense of touch ,you listen by becoming aware of the feeling and emotions that arise with your because of this contact with other you listen with your mind, your heart ,your imagination .

METHOD TO IMPROVE LISTENING:

METHOD TO IMPROVE LISTENING GOAL OF THE CONVERSATION: The goal of conversation should be very much clear in mind of the listener then only he can select proper way of listening. CLARITY OF OPTIONS: After the listener decides the purpose of conversation ,deliberately whether to speak or listen. Both listening and speaking are imp ,but people generally takes turn. PLAN- WHAT TO SAY: When your turn comes, you must know what to say and for this it is imp to have proper listening. ATTENTIVE LISTENING: Attentive listening needs body language, same direction of thinking, clarity of subject matter and language, proper analysis of pause, stress tone etc

SUPERFICIAL LISTENING When the listener pays no attention on the content of what being said ,it becomes superficial listening .this type of listening results into nothing because the uninterested listener can’t concentrate on the theme of conveyed message APPRECIATIVE LISTENING When the listener something for enjoyment and pleasure such as songs ,jokes, anecdotes, stories,it becomes appreciative listening.

FOCUSSED LISTENING When the listener listens something in the form of specific information, it becomes focused listening as the listener pays full attention to the content. Railway announcement,recorded message of costumer care service are example of focused listening COMPREHENSIVE LISTENING When the listener comprehends the message in order to understand the full meaning ,it falls in to the category of comprehensive listening. This type of listening results into the selection of needed information, out of the total information. Student should involve in this type

ATTENTIVE LISTENING In this type of listening, the listener's complete attention is must especially in situation such as interview, meeting, group discussion etc. Listener expected to pay full attention not only to the central idea but also to supporting details such as examples and illustrations EMPATHETIC LISTENING This type of listening leads the listener not only to understand the physical message but also to peep into listener states of mind, feeling and emotions

ACTIVE LISTENING:

ACTIVE LISTENING It is the process of converting an ideas or thought into message with complete involvement. It is a two way process where listener plays an active role. Listener encourages the speaker to express his ideas enthusiastically by showing interest in the speech. Listener never neglects the physical aspects of the speaker such as appearance, expression, and body movements they are helpful to covey meaning of spoken words. Listener shows the thirst for knowledge and information by asking relevant questions frequently and thus leads to build a good report between both.

PASSIVE LISTENING:

PASSIVE LISTENING It is the process of just absorbing the message without any involvement. It is a one way process where the listener pays no rule. The listener discourages the speaker by expression boredom on the face. Passive listener has nothing to do with these physical aspects as he wants to bring out no meaning from the spoken words. Passive listener wants the speaker to conclude as early as possible and thus no chance of building to support between them.

TRAITS OF A GOOD LISTENER:

TRAITS OF A GOOD LISTENER A good listener should concentrate on the message fully avoided physical distraction. A good listener should not allow his prejudices to close his mind to the conveyed information . A listener should take notes if he or she feels it desirable to use it at a later stage. One important trait of a listener is patience. Though he or she may be in hurry, he or she should listen the speaker patiently. A listener should send verbal utterances as ‘HUM’,’YES’ and non verbal signs as rolling eyes to indicate that the listener is following what the speaker is saying.
