The Three Levels of Questions :

The Three Levels of Questions

Level 1-Recall :

Level 1-Recall The answer is in one place in the text; you don’t need any other resources to answer these questions. What was Cinderella’s slipper made of? “On her feet were two delicate slippers made of glass…”

Level 2-Analysis/Inference :

Level 2-Analysis/Inference To find the answer, you must use both your own personal knowledge and evidence from the text. You often must look for the answer in several places in the text. Why do Cinderella’s stepsisters dislike her? “Lottie and Dottie were as ugly on the inside as they were on the outside…”

Level 3-Synthesis :

Level 3-Synthesis To find the answer, you must think beyond the text. These are big discussion questions for which there is no one correct answer. Does good always overcome evil? You don’t use the text to answer these questions.
