PREVENTION OF CUTS KNIFE SAFETY
Safety Awareness and Behavior :
Safety Awareness and Behavior Concentrate on what you are doing when using a knife
Never play with knives or sharp tools
Selection :
Selection Choose a knife that is the correct size and has the proper blade for the job to be done
Inspect knife to make sure handle is secure and blade is sharp
Cleaning and Maintenance :
Cleaning and Maintenance Keep knife handles free of grease or other slippery substances
Repair or throw knives away with loose blades
Inspect sharpness and sharpen blades as needed as part of routine maintenance
Remember- dull blades cause more accidents
Cutting :
Cutting Always use a cutting board
Cut and peel with the blade moving in a direction away from yourself and your hand(s)
While Using Knives :
While Using Knives Keep knives away from the edge of counters to reduce potential of knife falling on floor or on foot
Step out of way if a knife is dropped
Don’t try to catch a falling knife
Carrying :
Carrying Carry a knife by the handle with the tip pointed down and the blade away from the body
No Other Uses :
No Other Uses Use a knife for it’s intended purpose, NOT for a screwdriver, can opener, staple remover or box cutter.
