1. Determine WHY You’re Feeling So Guilty… :
1. Determine WHY You’re Feeling So Guilty… Write down all of your thoughts about what happened, and whether or not you’re the one who is truly to blame. Sometimes nobody is to blame at all.
Unhealthy guilt is a feeling that you did something wrong even when you didn’t. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to do something, just as long as your intentions were pure.
2. What Were Your Intentions? :
2. What Were Your Intentions? How would you rate what you did on a scale from one to ten? Whom did you hurt? How much guilt do you feel for hurting this person?
In order to stop feeling guilty, you need to have a clear idea of how much trouble you caused. The fact that you feel bad for what you did is a good sign. Now, you need to figure out how to make amends.
3. Making Amends :
3. Making Amends Will a simple apology suffice? Or will the individual whom you hurt require much more? Think about when and where to meet them, and how to take action. Will they agree to meet you, or will you have to wait until they’re ready?
Whatever you do, don’t try to run away from what you did. Seek help from friends and relatives if you have to.
4. Forgive Yourself :
4. Forgive Yourself Don’t beat yourself up over it – you will never be able to stop feeling guilty if you can’t get over what happened.
How can you expect the person you hurt to forgive you when you can’t even do it yourself? If you have a lot of pent up anger inside of you, try meditation or yoga. You can also rationalize your thoughts in a journal.
