THE KNOCKERS The first knocked At the house with his heart. No one heeded him The book did not part. And before he could think Of knocking with the stone. The life from his tired heart had flown. The second knocked With a piece of gold The door opened promptly And someone called: “Come in, friend, Come in! And join us here---- We welcome all callers; Anytime of the year”

1. Simile- is the direct comparison using comparative words, as and like . Example: Ysabelle is as sweet as candy. He fights like a lion. They fought like cats and dogs. 2. Metaphor - is an indirect or implied comparison.   Example: The Lord is my Shepherd . Time is a thief. Her home was a prison. 3 . Personification - giving of human quality to an inanimate object.   Example : The wind is singing a sweet lullaby . The moon seemed to smile at me from the sky. The candle flame danced in the dark.

4. Hyperbole- is an exaggeration; something more than the usual thing. Example: A million thanks to you. “I’ve told you a million times” “It was so cold, I saw polar bears wearing jackets” 5.
