Swiftwater S wiftwater was conceived around campfiresand on porch swings where friends and family played old tunes and swapped stories. In 2005, Joan Alderman, Amy Alderman, and Al & Wretha Webb submitted a recording of their songs tothe Florida Folk Festival and Swiftwater was officially born. Their music is a reflection of pride in their heritage, incorporating collected memories and stories from generations of loggers, farmers, Florida regimental volunteers, Scotch and Irish immigrants, and other Panhandle pioneers. They are a fusion of bluegrass, folk, gospel, blues, and classic country styles, what some might call “traditional-plus.” Their first full length album, “Patchwork Memories,” was completed in January 2008 and is available through cdbaby.com. In 2009, Swiftwater grew to include the very talented Sharlyn Marie Smith on mandolin. Sharlyn was formally known as one of the Rivertown Girls. “Swiftwater has been at the top of the invitation list ever since the band debuted on the Opry in June 2008”, says Mac. “The fans have requested an encore performance and it is truly a pleasure for us to welcome them back to the Opry stage! Their performance is filled with a good mix of classic country, bluegrass and Gospel music with a sprinkling of humor that is sure to please every fan,” Mac continues. “Al and Wretha Webb are excellent musicians and possess a wonderful vocal harmony that when joined with the instrumental/vocal talents of Amy and Joan Alderman and Ruth Hagy, produces music most pleasing to the ear!”.
