It was hard to travel back then because of the Revolutionary War. Phillis Wheatley went to Cambridge, Massachusetts to meet George Washington. He is one of the important men in American. Phillis Wheatley was born in Africa. Meeting 1753: In 1761 Phillis Wheatley was kidnapped form Africa and brought to America by a ship. When she was brought to America she was ONLY seven years old. She had only a piece of fabric to wrap around herself as clothing. Phillis Wheatley was kidnapped from Africa and brought to America. Then they got a little girl and named her Phillis after the ship who brought her here. Phillis correspond with Bostonians. She was accompanied by the Wheatley’s son. They went to England even though she was still enslaved. She had been welcomed to the England society. She had an appointment to meet king George III. Before she meant King George she had received an erg ant message from Boston. The message was about Susan Wheatley is dying. Susan Wheatly died in spring of 1774. She lived to see Phillis publish a book. Wheatly asked Phillis not to write a poem about her death. Before his wife’s death John Wheatley freed Phillis from slavery. She had overcome odds and the first enslaved female African to publish a book, But a free women as well. 1774PowerPoint Presentation: Seeing the General Phillis Wheatley was called in to see George Washington. They discussed the war or the books or Phillis poems. But we don’t know what they were talking about.
