He was recruit for the American Revolution. He had a diary that was a very descriptive story of his life.A young recruit (for a silver dollar). : A young recruit (for a silver dollar). During 1776 the colonies needed more soldiers to fight the British. Many people joined the colonies for the silver dollar, but Joseph needed more time to think. Two months later he finally decided to enlist.Hardships : Hardships One of his biggest problems was getting used to the food. Some of his meals include hard bread, salt pork or boiled beef and turnips or boiled potatoes.A ‘Body’ of Water: A ‘Body’ of Water In the battle by Gowanus Creek, the Americans fled. People were hastening across the creek. Many people drowned. The Creek was literally covered with bodies. You could probably climb over them as a bridge! (The stream was very red for the next few days).Farming Vs War: Farming Vs War After his 6 month term was up he went back to farming, eventually got bored, and reenlisted. :pThe rest of his life: The rest of his life When he got back from his second reenlisting, he got married, and went back to farming. He was also the father of 5 children, and died at age 90 at his farm in Maine.Sybil Ludington: Sybil Ludington At age 16 she out rode Paul Revere on her horse, Star.Why Ride?: Why Ride? April 26, 1777 When the British were burning Danbury, Connecticut, a messenger warned Colonel Ludington. He needed to get his troops together quickly. His daughter, Sybil, volunteered to ride around on her horse knocking on soldiers doors.Paul got Pwned!: Paul got Pwned! She rode around 40 miles, all night when it was storming on rough tracks. When Paul Revere rode, he rode 14 miles on smooth road for 2 hours.Her Route: Her RouteThe rest : The rest She married Edmond Ogden, her childhood sweetheart and had 4 sons and 2 daughters. She died at age 77. In 1975 she got her own 8 – cent stamp.
