When he was two years old his father was killed in a battle against Great Britain. Lafayette was enrolled in a fancy French boarding school when he was eleven. His mother and Grandfather were killed. Lafayette inherited his mom’s and grandfather’s money. Lafayette became one of the wealthiest noblemen alive. He was only 12! When Lafayette was 16 he married Adrienne de Noailles in 1774. He started military officer’s training. When he was 18 he became a captain in a horse mounted infantry. The Early Life of LafayettePowerPoint Presentation: The Americans were starting the revolutionary war. Lafayette wanted to help them. He arranged a meet with Silas Deane, an American diplomat who happened to be in Paris. He persuaded Deane to let him join. Lafayette was as excited as a child about to get ice cream. Lafayette asked the king Louis XVI if he could go down to help America. (p.s. XVI means 16) The king wouldn’t let him go. The king was scared that if such a honored French noblemen, going down to America would make Britain attack them. Lafayette eventually got to America. They were each over six feet tall and both lost fathers at an early age. Washington was 45 years old and Lafayette was 19. They started what would be a long friendship.
