Premium member Presentation Transcript Think Beyond Oil : Think Beyond Oil Prashant Kumar Slide 2: In seventies: $3 /Barrel Today – $130 /Barrel Tomorrow – $200 /Barrel India is importing 75 % of its total consumption U.S. is importing 60% of its total consumption Possible Solutions : Possible Solutions International Political Ground: Increase Production by oil export countries and Alternate of Fossil Fuels: Solar Energy, Wind Energy, Hydro Energy, Geothermal, Tidal Energy, Biomass Bio-fuels : Bio-fuels Ethanol Production (Less 20 Million Barrel Import by America) Major source for Ethanol Production is SOYABEAN and MAIZE -( Oil Price Escalation and Adverse International Community relation with America) In India – 550 Lac Hectare Barren Land Bio-diesel – 550 Lac Ton diesel if half of the above land is used for Jatropha /Rattan Jot cultivation. Slide 5: India has planned the investment 15000 – 20000 Crore for the next 3 to 5 years. Reliance Industries – Kakinada Mega project (5000 Hectare) If executed, 20 % mixing of bio – diesel – Considerable reduction in oil import, no specific technology, Source of income/employment for labors and farmers in next five years. Japan – rice is for ethanol production, Bio- waste, grass, wood – ethanol production Slide 6: Jatropha based bio-diesel Policy – Planning Commission of India in 2003, -Planned 20 % mixing with Petrol or Diesel by 2012 - 13.38 MMT Bio fuel production - requirement of 110 lac Hectare barren land Project is in hot soup!!!!!! 4 Lac Hectare is used for Jatropha production at present.
