Premium member Presentation Transcript Multiplexer and Demultiplexer : Multiplexer and Demultiplexer Jagtar Singh Regd. No. 11011161 Roll No. RG2001A03 Multiplexing and multiplexer : multiplexing is a method by which multiple analog message signals or digital data streams are combined into one signal For example, in telecommunications, several telephone calls may be carried using one wire The device which we use for multiplexing is the multiplxer. Multiplexing and multiplexer Demultiplexing and Demultiplexer : A reverse process of multiplexing known as demultiplexing can extract the original signals on the receiver side and a device that performs the reverse process is called a demultiplexer Demultiplexing and Demultiplexer The Basic Types of Multiplexing : There are four basic approaches to multiplexing that each have a set of variations and implementations Frequency Division Multiplexing (FDM) Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) Code Division Multiplexing (CDM) TDM and FDM are widely used WDM is a form of FDM used for optical fiber CDM is a mathematical approach used in cell phone mechanisms The Basic Types of Multiplexing BASIC TWO-INPUT MULTIPLEXER : In electronics multiplexer is a combination of gates BASIC TWO-INPUT MULTIPLEXER Slide 7: A multiplexer of 2n inputs has n select lines, which are used to select which input line to send to the output. Multiplexers are mainly used to increase the amount of data that can be sent over the network within a certain amount of time and bandwidth. A multiplexer is also called a data selector. FOUR-INPUT MULTIPLEXER : FOUR-INPUT MULTIPLEXER Slide 9: Multiplexer will select only one input single from 2n inputs and send it to output As in four input signal multiplexer there is n=2. so number of input is 4. 9 to 16 inputs would require no fewer than 4 selector pins 17 to 32 inputs would require no fewer than 5 selector pins Advantage : Main advantage Cost saving In telecommunications we can use a single wire to carry more than one call. Time saving Advantage Thank you : Thank you You do not have the permission to view this presentation. In order to view it, please contact the author of the presentation.
