In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

PowerPoint Presentation:

My magazine is a pop music magazine, I have flowed the conventions of a typical pop magazine so that it will attract my target audience. These are all parts I have taken from various pages of my magazine to show how I have followed the convention of a pop magazine. 1 .This is taken from the contents page; it is a section in the middle of the page to show the main article in the magazine. I placed it in a banner across the whole page; it is bright yellow so it will be one of the first things that the viewer sees when they look at the page. I wanted it to have this effect because it is the main article inside the magazine so it will make the viewer want to carry on reading. Yellow is also a colour that is seen in a lot of pop music magazines so I thought that it was a suitable colour to use. 2. This is a section of the masthead, I chose to use pink because it is a conventional colour used in pop magazines this is because a lot of pop magazines are aimed at teenage girls and bright pink is a colour that they stereotypically like. I chose to use the font ‘Bauhaus 93’ as it is a very round font, I the wrote in bold capitals so that it looked like bubble writing, this is a suitable font for a pop magazine as it appeals to the target audience. 3. The third box is taken form the front cover; this is one of the coverlines it is a ‘buzz word’ these are words used in magazines to interest and excite the reader. For this I used the font ‘century gothic’ it is also in bold and italic. I chose this font because it is similar to a teenage girl’s handwriting but it is still neat and easy to read. It is bright pink to fit in with the house style of the magazine and I have put it in bold so that it stands out as it is the main article inside the magazine and I want this to be one of the first things that the viewer sees when they look at the front cover. I have placed the coverline half way down the page to the left, I have made it large, and this follows the conventions of pop magazines because a lot of them place the main article in the centre of the cover so that it stands out the most. 4. This is a puff that is placed in the top right corner of the front cover; puffs are used on magazines to highlight things that would interest the reader. It is bright yellow because it goes with the house style of my magazine, and also as it is a bright colour it would attract the attention of the reader.

5. This is a section taken from the contents page; it is some of the page numbers. I have used the same font as the coverlines on the front cover because I want it to be a theme running through the whole magazine. Although all of the writing is in the same font I chose to make the page numbers different sizes, I think that this made the page look more interesting and informal as teenage girls would be addressed in an informal way. I used black writing as it makes it easy to read against the white background. 6. These are images that are taken from the contents page; they are images that would be featured inside of the magazine so that they are relevant. In all pop magazines there will be images on the contents page because if there were not and it was full of writing it would be too much for the reader and they would not be interested in reading so much writing. 7. This is part of the writing from the title of my double page spread. For the title I decided to select a quote from my interview, this is something that is sometimes done in magazines because it will make the reader want to find out more about what they are saying and read the rest of the article. I used the same font as I had used on the front cover and contents page ‘century gothic’ however I made it italic and bold as it was a title it had to be bold so that it is the first piece of writing that is seen by the reader when they look at the page. I used black for the title as it contrast with the white background and is easy to read. 8. These are images that I used on the double page spread. I used six photographs on my double page spread with one a lot larger than the others. I used a lot of images because my target audience are young and they would not be interested if the page was full of writing. I decided to make the images different sizes because it makes the page look more interesting and they frame the article well. 9 .The last section is taken from my double page spread; this is part of the article that I wrote which was an interview with a celebrity. I chose a celebrity interview for my double page spread as it is something that features in a lot of music magazines not just pop. This is because the readers of the magazine are interested in the lives of the celebrities that they admire. For the article I used the same font that I have used throughout all of the pages in the magazine and it is black so that it is easy to read. I did not want to make the writing too small so that it was easy to read.
