However, MOSFETs smashed this barrier apart, offering switching frequencies in excess of 250kHZ. Thus the limiting step of low switching frequencies had been removed from transformer design. This in turn was now replaced by the next limiting step: namely the physical design of the traditional ‘wire-wound’ transformer itself . It is Planar transformers that overcome this new limiting step, resolving many of the problems of traditional wire-wound transformers and provide significant reductions in the size and weight, improved efficiencies and much simpler manufacturing methods. The name planar implies that the geometry of these transformers is more of a two-dimensional component, rather than the traditional three-dimensional wire-wound equivalents. Planar technology comprises two major design features that distinguish it from the old-fashioned ‘wire-wound’ transformers: 1. The windings are replaced by flat copper foil lead frames and can even be embedded into a printed circuit board 2. These flat windings are then mounted between thin, very lightweight, ferrite coresSlide 4: http://www.ipcalculus.com info@ipcalculus.com Technology classification Note: To access complete classification & comprehensive landscape report, please contact us at +1-619-618-0414 OR send your query on http://www.ipcalculus.com/contactus.php 2011 © IPCalculus ServicesSlide 5: http://www.ipcalculus.com info@ipcalculus.com Patent distribution by top Assignee 2011 © IPCalculus ServicesSlide 6: http://www.ipcalculus.com info@ipcalculus.com Geographical pat ent distribution Geographical patent distribution with Country code, patent count and percentage 2011 © IPCalculus ServicesSlide 7: http://www.ipcalculus.com info@ipcalculus.com Patent distribution by top IPC class 2011 © IPCalculus ServicesSlide 8: http://www.ipcalculus.com info@ipcalculus.com Patent distribution by top US class 2011 © IPCalculus ServicesSlide 9: http://www.ipcalculus.com info@ipcalculus.com Patent distribution by top ECLA class 2011 © IPCalculus ServicesSlide 10: http://www.ipcalculus.com info@ipcalculus.com Patent distribution by Application year 2011 © IPCalculus ServicesSlide 11: http://www.ipcalculus.com info@ipcalculus.com Patent distribution by Publication year 2011 © IPCalculus ServicesSlide 12: http://www.ipcalculus.com info@ipcalculus.com Patent distribution by Priority year 2011 © IPCalculus ServicesSlide 13: http://www.ipcalculus.com info@ipcalculus.com 2011 © IPCalculus Services Issued and Published Patent Distribution by Application yearSlide 14: http://www.ipcalculus.com info@ipcalculus.com 2011 © IPCalculus Services Issued and Published Patent Distribution by Publication yearSlide 15: http://www.ipcalculus.com info@ipcalculus.com 2011 © IPCalculus Services Issued and Published Patent Distribution by Priority yearSlide 16: http://www.ipcalculus.com info@ipcalculus.com About IPCalculus IPCalculus is an Intellectual Property research & analytical consulting firm based in India, providing customized services in the form of Patent landscape analysis, Patent portfolio analysis, Patent searches (Prior-art, Patentability/Novelty, Invalidation, Infringement, and Freedom to Operate), Patent alert and monitoring, Legal status updates, Trend analysis, Patent to Product mapping and Patent licensing .
