Premium member Presentation Transcript Green Tea: Green Tea 緑茶Slide 2: Green tea is a type of tea made solely with the leaves of Camellia saneness that has undergone minimal oxidation during processing.History of Green tea: History of Green tea Green tea originates from China and has become associated with many cultures in Asia from Japan to the Middle East. Recently, it has become more widespread in the West, where black tea is traditionally consumed.Slide 4: History of Tea in Japan The first written account of tea in Japan dates back to the beginning of the ninth century. Japanese monks that travelled to China brought it back with them. Tea was mainly drunk as medicine at that time and was only available to the upper class. Later, at the end of the twelfth century, tea was reintroduced in the form of matcha for religious purposes by Eisai, the founder of Zen Buddhism. Eisai also wrote Kissayôjôki , the first Japanese book on tea that describes the beneficial influence of tea on health. This book greatly stimulated the popularity of tea. Over the years, tea found its way to a larger public, especially when new ways to process tea were developed.Slide 5: In the fifteenth century the Chinese kamairicha method, producing tea by pan-firing tea, was introduced to Kyusu in the south of Japan . This remained the way to produce tea until the eighteenth century. In 1738 Sôen Nagatani of Uji invented a method to steam and rub tea. This revolutionary invention became the starting point of the production of typical Japanese sencha and gyokuro. The production process has been largely improved and automated since then, but the basic process has remained the same.Slide 6: Green tea has been used as both a beverage and a method of traditional medicine in most of Asia, including China, Japan, Vietnam, Korea, India and Thailand, to help everything from controlling bleeding and helping heal wounds to regulating body temperature, blood sugar and promoting digestion. Medical useSlide 7: NEW YORK (Reuters Health) – Drinking green tea may lower your risk of developing certain blood cancers, but it will take about 5 cups a day, according to a study from Japan. Drinking green tea has been associated with lower risk of dying and heart disease deaths. Blood Cancer Heart disease Blood pressure Cholesterol Drinking 5 or more cups of green tea daily was also associated with 48 percent lower risk for lymph system cancers.Slide 8: Green tea also helps you to keep in shape!Slide 9: The key to success : Water and its Temperature An ideal choice should be Natural water or Soft mineral water. It is essential, first of all, to remove chlorine contained in tap water. If possible, put the water into a pot and leave it as it is for one or two hours before boiling. When the water has started boiling, take a lid off and be sure to let it continue to boil for a few minutes. If you use an electric pot, reset it to boil a few times. A proper temperature of water varies according to the kind of tea you use. Let it cool off till it reaches at the right temperature : another essential for you to keep in mind. How to best brew Green tea 水 waterSlide 10: 1. Boil the water. Rinse the teapot with the just boiled water. Pour the boiled water into the cups you will use to cool the water and to warm the cups. Approximately one teaspoon to one cup of water. Let it stand till the water has cooled down to the right temperature. ( approximately 180 degrees Fahrenheit )Slide 11: 2. Put the appropriate amount of tea into the teapot . When making a tea for the first time, use the advised amount of tea and brewing time, and adjust this later to your own taste. 3. Pour the water into the teapot and steep for about 2 minutes. Brewing too long may turn the tea bitter.Slide 12: 5. Pour it out at once, until the last drop, so that you can enjoy another cup of tea. 4.Pour a little bit of the brewed tea into each teacup in turn and repeat this process until the teapot is empty.
