Computerized OAA test and no computers.:

Computerized OAA test and no computers. By: Shannon R. Rote

Background:

Background By the year 2014-15 the state of Ohio wants to go paperless with the Ohio Academic Assessment tests. Paperless tests will result in instant results for students and school systems. Students will be required to use laptops, desktops, or tablets supplied by either the students or the school system. ID problem was address at Copley-Fairlawn Middle School.

Development:

Development The development is to allow for more computer lab time for students in all grades. There are 7 computer labs in the building but only 1 is available at all times during the day. Plan is to have a new bell schedule for the 5 th and 6 th grade side of the building.

Development continued:

Development continued Teach the students how to take tests on the computer. Needs to be done with the assistance of the computer teachers. Practice OAA computer testing needs to be done by the general education teachers. Need to teach the students how to type. 4

Current student schedule:

Current student schedule

Implementation:

Implementation All periods will be the same length for all grades. Get more computers in the building. All student will have computer class everyday. Specials classes will be altered so everyone gets art. Challenge is trying to get the students to have equal time in all specials. Plan on implementing the new schedule at the beginning of next school year.

Evaluation:

Evaluation The overall evaluation of the project will not be scene until the results of the OAAs are in. Copley has been Excellence or Excellence with Distinction every year since the state started testing. The concern is being able to get student familiar enough with the technology for them to take the tests.

Evaluation continued:

9 Evaluation continued Area that might need changing is the stressing of the band in the middle school. Familiarity of testing with the computers will come with the practice of taking computer test in the general education classroom. It might be hard to get the teachers union to agree to the changes needed to assist the students for the OAA.

Evaluation continued:

Evaluation continued The target audience for this project was being thought about. I am a member of the buildings’ Technology Committee. The lack of computer lab time is one of, if not the number one issue that the teachers have about the building. 10
