Premium member Presentation Transcript Slide 1: CAIRO Slide 2: This presentation is about Cairo. Cairo is the capital city of Egypt. There has been a lot of pyramids and amazing buildings. Cairo has a very rich history. Slide 3: This is dr. Zahi Hawass. He is a famous archaeologist, egyptologist and author. He discovered tombs of Pyramid Builders and valley of the Golden Mummies. Slide 4: He has been in one of Time magazine’s top 100 most influential people. He has written many books about Egypt and pyramids. Slide 5: ’Now, I’m taking you with me in journey to find out secrets of Dahshur.’ ‘ I would like you to come with me and see this unique pyramid.’ Slide 6: ‘We’re in the pyramid, as you can see. This is the oldest pyramid in Egypt. It took builders 54 years to built it. Inside the pyramid you can smell the dust. The dust of pyramids is my perfume. In this pyramid you can feel the wind coming from some place you don’t know. I believe that the secret chember is in this pyramid.’ Slide 7: ‘This sight is so peacefull that you can for the first time feel the magic of Dahshur. It’s incredible.’ Slide 8: CAIRO CITY Slide 9: ‘Now I’m taking you to another unique place. It’s different from the pyramids. It’s a house and a museum that not many people know. It’s a Gayer Anderson’s museum. It’s in the old part of Cairo. It has a smell and the history that you’ll never see in your whole life.’ Slide 11: ‘You know, I don’t really like modern houses. I live whole my life in the desert inside very simple houses. And this is why I do like this house. It has the smell of the past. This is Gayer Anderson’ house and he was an officer in Brittish army. He was famous collector of arts. He was collecting chairs, beds, tablewares, things from China, Egypt and so. If you take anything in this house and just smell, you can smell the history of Cairo. Slide 12: ‘I like this room very much. This is Gayer Anderson’s room. He used to sit in this chair and open this typewriter and just type. All his dreams, all exciting things that he saw, I can see and tell you now. I can tell you about old Cairo and these streets.’ Slide 13: ‘When I want to relax from my job, pyramids, mummies I go to this caffe. It’s my favourit. And that’s the place where I really enjoy to have a time. When I come to this place I bring with me my friend who’s a writer. He writes about archeology. We smoke, drink, speak about our lives, old days,..’ Slide 14: ‘We have known each other for 40 years. And this place is where we usually meet.’ Slide 15: CAIRO CITY Slide 16: This is Ahmed El Esseily. He is a TV and the radio host. His job is chatting with ordinary Egyptians about current affairs. He is famous for his groundbreaking and inspirating discussions. Slide 17: ‘Cairo long time ago was very beautilful, but now, it’s very crowded. Let me show you some special places which are really important to me and my hometown. Come on!’ Slide 18: This is Al Azhar Park. Everything is green here and you can smell a lot of oxigen and it’s not crowded. It’s peaceful. You can hear sounds of fountains. Here, you can really relax. Slide 19: ‘Can you believe that this place was yunkyard? Maybe this is why I like it. It changed into something beautiful. Possibility of change. Yes, that’s the reason I like this place.’ Slide 20: ‘This is the old part of Cairo. This street is something like a mall. Here in this street is a place where I have never been to. So I’m going to discover it together with you.’ Slide 21: This place is full of books. It’s kind of a library and a book shop. It’s called Atelier de Reliure. Slide 22: ‘This is an owner of this place. I asked him what’s so special about this library? Why does everyone know about this place? What is his job here? He told me that he take care on the books. This man invented special covers for the books. The cover is from the fish shell. That’s the reason why this library is so famous and special. This man has worked in this library for 56 years! He started working when he was a little boy. He worked with his father.’ Slide 24: ‘I hope you enjoyed in our little tour and now is time for one thing. We’re going to Bon Bini bar&caffe.’ Slide 25: ‘When I’m really tired I come to this place to relax and feel good. This place is called Bon Bini which on Portuguese means –welcome-. Here’s very quiet and that’s why I like it.’ Slide 26: CAIRO CITY Slide 27: This is Randa Kamel. She’s an oriental dancer and a teacher. She opened dance schools in Egypt, France and Brazil. Slide 28: ‘We’re sailing now in Felluca in the Nile. It’s beautiful. Here is the best place to see sunset in Cairo. I love sitting here so much. Every vacation I have, I make sure I come to this place. The Nile is my life, as it is for all Egyptians. Of course we all now Egypt is the gift of the Nile. There’s no place more beautiful than this for me. ‘ Slide 29: ‘This is the other side, the other face of Cairo at night. A very crowded and very crazy atmosphere. Now I’ll take you to the best place where you can buy belly dancing costumes in the whole world.’ Slide 30: There’s a special place in this building where taylors cut the fabric and prepare the costume. And then it goes to the next phase where they finish it. They stitch the bra together before it goes to the final stage which is to embroider and after that costumes go to showroom where everything is finished. Slide 31: This is the room where the clothes are shown when they’re finished. And if anyone wants to come and see new clothes, this is showroom for that. Of course there are many beautiful designes. Slide 32: ‘’This is Vanessa. She’s a belly dancer from New York. She’s a friend of mine for a long time. She has chosen this dress to buy it. I love the dress because of the colour and shape.’’ Slide 33: People come all over the world to buy from here, so you must come and buy here a dress, too. Slide 34: CAIRO CITY MY OPINION OF PRESENTATION : MY OPINION OF PRESENTATION I liked this theme. It’s very interesting and educational to me. I learned from this very much. I learned a little bit of history about Cairo. Also, I learned how ordinary people spend they days in the city they love, Cairo. I learned where I can buy the prettiest dress in the world ;).
