Definition of Plastic Recycling : Definition of Plastic Recycling Plastic recycling is the process of recovering scrap or waste plastics and reprocessing the material in to useful products, sometimes completely different in form from their original state. For instance, this could mean melting down soft drink bottles then casting them as plastic chairs and tables. Steps Before Recycle The Plastic : : Steps Before Recycle The Plastic : Learn what items and materials are accepted for recycling in your community. 1- collecting (in centers of cities). 2- sorting the types of plastics by(hand-machines). 3-Shredding and Crushing . 4-washing and cleaning. 5-drying. 6-regranulate . collecting : collecting collect the plastics at its stores and distribution centres for recycling IDENTIFICATION AND SORTING SYSTEMS : IDENTIFICATION AND SORTING SYSTEMS sorting for mechanical recycling is done by trained staff who manually sort the plastics depend of polymer type or colour. Slide 7: ii.sorting depend of machines Technology is being introduced to sort plastics automatically, using: various techniques such as: X-ray fluorescence, infrared spectroscopy. Density methods Sorting Based on IR : Sorting Based on IR : 1-Polyethylene terephthalate - Fizzy drink bottles . 2-High-density polyethylene - Bottles for milk . 3-Polyvinyl chloride - Food trays, cling film, bottles mineral water and shampoo. 4-Low density polyethylene - Carrier bag. iii.sorting depend on recycling code: Slide 10: 5-Polypropylene - Margarine tubs. 6-Polystyrene - Yoghurt pots, foam meat or fish. trays, hamburger boxes , protective packaging . 7-Any other plastics that do not fall into any of the above categories- An example is melamine, which is often used in plastic plates and cups. Shredding and Crushing : Shredding and Crushing The size reduction of plastics to 1” to 3” chips. Shredding may be performed prior to granulation to allow for removal of large contaminants such as metal or wood which may damage the granulator. Washing and Cleaning : Washing and Cleaning Granulated material is washed in a tank with hot or cold water with surfactants (detergents) to loosen and remove contaminants adhering to plastic particles Washing equipment: · centrifugal cleaners. · washing tanks. drying : drying after wash the waste plastic you have to dryer it to fast the process of granuale before forming. Regranulate : Regranulate the plastic recycle is either : melted down directly and moulded into a new shape, or . melted down after being shredded into flakes and than processed into granules called regranulate. A process stream for recycled plastic material : A process stream for recycled plastic material Applications Of Recycled Plastics : Applications Of Recycled Plastics Recycled plastic can be used in almost as many applications and products as: Packaging Construction Landscaping Textile fibre / clothing Other uses: Traffic management products, automotive products, industrial strapping, and many more. Conclusion : Conclusion Today recycling is getting more attention than ever as a wayto solve global energy and resource depletion problems.
