Beautiful bodies “The true meaning of beauty” Activism Project for Women’s Studies 2010

The Whole Project : 

The Whole Project Went to Sullivan Central High School and talked to freshman girls about body image. Discussed the true idea of beauty and promoted healthy habits for young girls to follow. What beauty really means? How the media effects body image? Eating disorders

My Part I contacted and organized the location place and time. Helped assemble power point and poster Assisted in presentation

What did the Activism Benefit? : 

What did the Activism Benefit? The benefit of the project was to impact young girls lives. Change their perception of the perfect body. Prevent eating disorders from happening.

What was the purpose of the Activism? : 

What was the purpose of the Activism? Educate young women on the idea of true beauty. Inform them on the dangers of eating disorders.

How was the Project Feminist? : 

How was the Project Feminist? The organization was feminist. Young women working together to accomplish a common goal. Promoting positive images for young girls. The feminist organization was done with equality. Equal Work and Responsibility

Positives about the Project : 

Positives about the Project Fun to work with other women and collaborate on important ideas. Making a difference in young girls lives.

Negatives about the Project : 

Negatives about the Project Some girls showed little interest on the subject. Discouraging at times Organization was hectic at times. Working around everyone’s schedule Time frame

What Worked Well with the Project? : 

What Worked Well with the Project? The power point was very effective in our presentation. Pictures Discussion of the media and it’s effect on women’s bodies

What did not Work Well with the Project? : 

What did not Work Well with the Project? The poster was not very effective. Boring to the audience. Education on the different types of eating disorders. Overwhelming

What would I Change about the Project? : 

What would I Change about the Project? Instead of doing a poster I would focus more on the power point. I would have more pictures in the presentation. Captures the audiences attention

What would I do the Same? : 

What would I do the Same? I would do everything the same, but add more pictures. I would keep my focus on young high girls. Important age to address body image

Was the Activism Successful? : 

Was the Activism Successful? The project was very successful. Changed focus on body image. Organization went well. Time was used efficiently. Good communication skills. Overall positive impact on young girls.
