Rembrandt:

Rembrandt Rembrandt ( July 15, 1606 - October 4, 1669) was a Dutch painter and etcher. He is considered one of the greatest painters and printmakers in European art history and the most important in Dutch history. His art came in a period called the Dutch Golden Age.

Meet Hansken The elephant was brought from Ceylon to Amsterdam by a ship. Hansken performs a variety of tricks and tours Europe. Tricks such as him firing a pistol, handling a sword or lifting his hat! Rembrandt actually sketched the elephant when he had the chance to meet Hansken .

These sketches are believed to be of a female elephant named Hansken. Do you notice all of the lines, going different directions? Why did Rembrandt draw lines on Hansken like this? :

Elephant skin is full of wrinkles. He created the wrinkles with interesting shapes and lines. The lines move in different directions suggesting those wrinkles are everywhere.

Put blobs of paint to represent the colors of the rainbow on one side of your page.

Use a hard edge ruler to scrape each color of paint and smear it across your page to create Elmer’s Rainbow.

While rainbow is drying glue your elephant on a dark sheet of construction paper.:
