Early years Prince Karim Aga Khan borned in a respected family in Geneva, S witzerland on 13 th December- 1936. His parents were Prince Aly Salman Khan (1911-1960) and Princess Tajuddawlah (1908-1997). Prince Karim is the grand son of our 48 th imam Sir S ultan Muhammad Shah (1877-1957). Mawlana Hazir Imam have 3 siblings Prince Amyn, Princess Yasmeen Aga Khan and Patrick Benjamin(1931-1965). Hazir Imam spent his childhood in Nairobi, Kenya.

EDUCATION Sir Sultan Muhammad Shah appointed scholar Mustafa Kamil from Aligarh Muslim University for private tutoring of Prince Karim. Mawlana Hazir Imam than attended Institute Le Rosé for nine years. He graduated from Harvard University in1959 with BA honors degree for Islamic studies.

Marriages and Children Hazir Imam married his first wife Begum Salima on Oct-22-1969 who was a famous model. Hazir Imam married his 2 nd wife Princess Gabrile who assumed the name Begum Inaara on May-10-1998. Hazir Imam divorced with Begum Salima in 1995 and divorced Begum Inaara on 3 rd -Oct-2011. Mawlana Hazir Imam have 4 children, 3 sons and 1 daughter Princess Zahra Aga Khan.(born on Sept-11 th -1970) Prince Rahim Aga Khan.(born on Oct-12 th -1971) Prince Hussain Aga Khan.(born on April-10 th -1974) Prince Aly Muhammad.(born on March-7 th -2000)

Why Prince Karim become Imam? After the death of Sir Sultan Muhammad Shah , Prince Karim at the age of 20 became our 49 th Imam by passing his father Prince Aly Salman Aga Khan and his uncle Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan who were in direct line of succession. Sir Sultan Muhammad Shah expressed the reason of his decision his will through these words : “In view of the fundamentally altered conditions in the world has provoked many changes, including the discoveries of atomic science , I am convinced that it is in the best interests of the Ismaili community that I should be succeeded by a young man who has been brought up and developed during recent years and in the midst of the new age, and who brings a new outlook on life to his office”

Golden Jubilee On 11 th -july-2007 Ismaili leaders from all over the world gathered at Hazir Imam’s resident to homage behalf of the global government. Mawlana Hazir Imam visited many countries including Kenya, India, U.S.A, Bangladesh, U.K, Syria, Dubai, Canada , Singapore ,France, Tajikistan, Uganda, Tanzania , Madagascar, AbuDahbi etc. Numerous programs were launched internationally on the theme of unity, Heritage and culture Hazir Imam also organized a sports meet in Kenya where teams from all over the world came to play.
