Moodle was designed on the world’s most popular web development platform LAMP or Linux, Apache, Mysql and PHP. Moodle was created completely with free and Open Source software. MOODLE Moodle can also run on WAMP (Windows, Apache, Mysql, PHP and will run on any version of windows (Win95 up to Vista). (A Course Management System)

There is an open source WAMP (Windows-Apache-MYSQL-PHP) package called XAMPP
Note: the X in XAMPP is an acronym for any of four operating systems (Linux, Windows, Mac, Sun Solaris) that it can run on. All four are able to run most PHP based scripts directly from the package’s installation directory. XAMPP (A Web Server Package)
