Consonants:
Consonants Most consonants are the same in Latin as in English but there are a few exceptions:
c is always hard as in “can”
t always has the sound of t in “tired”, never of sh in the English “tion”
ch has the sound of ck in “kick”, never of the softer ch in “church”
g is always hard as in “get” (there was no letter j in ancient Latin so the sound does not even exist and even in modern texts where the letter is used it is pronounced as a short i”)
