Plant your feet on the floor. Rest your back against your chair. Be relaxed. Elbows should be firmly planted on your side. Why learn keyboarding? : Why learn keyboarding? Keyboarding is a skill needed in the professional job world. The keyboard we use in the US is called the QWERTY because of the first six letters that are on the top left of the keyboard. People who are good typist, don’t look at the keyboard when they type, they look at the monitor. Now let’s begin! : Now let’s begin! First find the home row and space bar on your keyboard. Home row Space bar The home row : The home row The home row is the middle row of letters and it has two touch keys. Find the touch keys. Slide 6: The touch keys have a little groove that you can feel. The touch keys : The touch keys The touch keys let you know which hand you should be typing your letters with. F is the touch key for the left side. J is the touch key for the right side. Color each key on home row a different color. : Color each key on home row a different color. Then color the space bar. Now let’s find out how our hands should look on a keyboard. : Now let’s find out how our hands should look on a keyboard. Let’s start with the left hand. First place your pinky finger on the A button. Then put the next finger on the s button, then another finger on the d button and the last finger on the f button. First place your pinky finger on the button with the semi-colon on it. Slide 13: Then put the next finger on the l button. Then put the middle finger on the k and the last finger on the letter j.
