She is an attractive southern lady who has a very interesting story of how she raised her boys as a single Mom. She found a husband later in life. Finally, the day came to begin the journey..November 12, 2009 : Finally, the day came to begin the journey..November 12, 2009 Harriett III and Harriett IV got on the plane and went to South Carolina. It had been raining in Lancaster, but it stopped when the Harrietts got together. They went off happily from the airport to dine at Cracker Barrel…giggling about their coming adventure. HARRIETT I : HARRIETT I When the two younger Harriett’s arrived at Mama Lou’s she gave them a small framed picture of Harriett Lou Drennan the first Harriett. As a group they decided that she needed to be a part of the trip so Harriett IV put the picture in her purse for the adventure. FRIDAY NOVEMBER 13 : FRIDAY NOVEMBER 13 Friday Morning : Friday Morning We woke up early to a nice breakfast of toast, cereal and coffee. Oh and you can’t forget the Hazelnut Coffee Mate. Harriett II claims that creamer makes the coffee. Then we hit the road, 3 bags, 3 Harriett’s, and a picture of the 1st Harriett. Harriett III had map quest directions to Savannah but Harriett II made a few of her own corrections to the directions out of Lancaster. Lizards Thicket : Lizards Thicket On the way, Harriett II recommended that we stop in Columbia for a nice southern cooked meal at Lizard’s Thicket which is a restaurant chain based in Columbia, S.C. Their regular lunch menu includes a meat, 3 vegetables and rolls. None of us could finish our entire meal! SAVANNAH : SAVANNAH By the time we got to the Talmidge bridge of Savannah Mama Lou and Harriett IV were both well rested from naps. At the end of the bridge we were in Savannah and our map quest directions had ended. We explored from the car windows for a bit before finding our hotel. MULBERRY INN : MULBERRY INN We checked in at the Mulberry Inn at 4pm right when tea time began. We sat in a beautiful living room area where we relaxed and enjoyed hot tea, a pianist, and historical books about Savannah. Saturday November 14 : Saturday November 14 BREAKFAST : BREAKFAST Harriett III and Mama Lou had breakfast early in the Mulberry breakfast room. Mama Lou joyfully ordered eggs benedict. After breakfast Harriett III went to make reservations for Paula Deen’s restaurant. Mama Lou enjoyed a telephone visit with Daisy. While Harriett IV slept in and saved her appetite for lunch. Carriage Ride in Savannah : Carriage Ride in Savannah The 4 Harriett’s (Harriett Drennan still in the purse) climbed into a horse drawn carriage and learned about the historical sights of Savannah. The driver was very entertaining as he wove stories of the families who had lived in the historical homes. We were done with the tour with 15 minutes before our reservations and a two block walk to Paula’s. Lady and Sons : Lady and Sons We got to Lady and Sons and were seated immediately. Mama Lou ordered the crab cakes (which were excellent). Harriett III had Lobster Bisque and Harriett IV had a huge salad, still saving room for the dessert. Key Lime Pie : Key Lime Pie For dessert we ordered a gigantic slice of key lime pie to share. The crust consisted of slivered almonds and, of course, butter! We agreed the pie was worth the entire trip to Savannah. Slide 17: After our enormous lunch we packed into the car and drove back to Lancaster. Again, Mama Lou and Harriett IV napped while Harriett III drove the entire way, no one was awake to monitor her speed. SUNDAY NOVEMBER 15 : SUNDAY NOVEMBER 15 On Sunday morning we went to church at Shiloh A.R.P. Church. We got there in time for Sunday School and church.
