Theodore Roosevelt America’s 26th President.

When And Where Was He Born? : 

When And Where Was He Born? Named after his father, Theodore Roosevelt was born into a wealthy family on October 27, 1858 at 28 East 20th Street, New York City.

What About his Family? : 

What About his Family? His parent’s were Theodore Roosevelt and Martha Bulloch. He had four siblings including him. One brother Elliot, and two sisters Ana and Coriine.

Where Did He Live. : 

Where Did He Live. Roosevelt had many homes in his lifetime, but his main home was Sagamore Hill, on Long Island, NY.

What was his childhood like? : 

What was his childhood like? He did not have the best childhood. He was born with athsma and was near sighted. His father was embarased by him so he built him a gym in the farm house so he could lift weights.

Where did he go to school? As A child Theodore was very sick. He suffered from asthma so he was to sick to go to school. With their money, His parents hired many private tutors. In 1875, at the age of 17, Theodore Roosevelt took and passed the Harvard entrance exam. He began his studies the next year.

Why Did He Want To Become President? Politics had been Theodore Roosevelt’s career since he was first elected to the New York State Assembly as a college student. He was a hard, energetic worker in his career and everything else. He had many jobs in politics and kept increasing in popularity so eventually he found his self running for president.

When Was He Elected? : 

When Was He Elected? He was elected vice president on March 4th,1901. Then president McCinley was shot so he became president. At age 42. Roosevelt is sworn into office. He then served four more terms after that by persuading the people to re-elect him.

Who was Theodore Roosevelt Married to? He Married Alice Hathaway Lee. On his 22nd birthday.

What was his occupation before he became president? He served as a New York State Assemblyman, Governor of New York, and Vice President of the United States. He was also a deputy sheriff in the Dakota Territory, Police Commissioner of New York City, U.S. Civil Service Commissioner, Assistant Secretary of the Navy, and Colonel in the "Rough Riders."

What are some major things Theodore Roosevelt did? He received a medal of honor. He helped with the building of the Panama Canal. He created 150 National Forests. 5 National Parks . 18 National Monuments . And 4 National Game Preserves.

What was his favorite food? His favorite breakfast food was bratwurst and a warm cup of milk. His favorite lunch food was a double bread hot cheese and turkey sandwich. His favorite dinner food was a nice potato with his own churned butter.

Did he have any pets? In fact he had aout 400 over his life time. And his favorite was a dog named Bow Wow, but that dog was mentally ill and died young. He had birds cats guinea pigs and much more types of animals.

How did he get the nickname “Teddy”? Sometimes in office people would start chanting “Teddie” because it is easier than chanting Theodore.

How is the Teddy Bear Named After Him? One day Theodore and a few of his friends in his party were hunting. They trapped a bear and asked Theodore to shoot it. He told them that killing the bear was cruel and never hunted again. A toy maker in New York heard the story and asked for his permission to make the “Teddy Bear”. Theodore agreed ,not expecting many sales.

After Roosevelt retired from politics, he led an expedition in South America to find the source of a river known as "the River of Doubt".  Most of the party died and Roosevelt caught the fever but still survived. The river is now named "Rio Roosevelt."

How did Theodore Roosevelt Die? On January 6, 1919, Roosevelt died in his sleep of a blood clot in the heart. He was 60 years old.
