Recommends hospital and clinic policies to meet new Joint Commission standards on cultural competency, health literacy and language access. Shapes state Medicaid policy. Cancer drug Tavocept helps humans with lung and ovary cancer and is now being tested at MU to help dogs with bladder cancer. Veterinary oncologist Carolyn Henry and Frederick Hausheer, MD ‘82, pet McDuff , who has bladder cancer.Slide 16: MU Orthopaedics MU is a global leader in orthopaedic medicine. Researcher James Cook turns discoveries at the molecular level into breakthrough treatments for animals with injuries and arthritis. His team creates biological joints using a patient’s own cells. They hope the technology will translate to humans. The Missouri Orthopaedic Institute and the Comparative Orthopaedic Laboratory at MU work together to improve human and animal health.Slide 17: MU Nutritional Center for Health MU is combating obesity and other lifestyle-related diseases. Nutrition and Exercise Physiology’s new “MUNCH” center includes a research metabolic kitchen, food choice behavior lab and teaching kitchen.
