CHRISTMAS AROUND THE WORLD Unkina School Primary 5 2015


It is very warm in Chile because it’s in the middle of summer People like to decorate their houses with  Christmas Trees  and lights Nativity Scenes ,Pesebres,  are important decoration Christmas Eve   is the most important day over Christmas They celebrate Advent and also go to special church services for nine days before Christmas known as Novena. Santa   is called “Viejito Pascuero” FELIZ NAVIDAD


Christmas Trees were first popularised the UK by Prince Albert, the husband of Queen Victoria . . Villages, towns and cities are decorated with Christmas lights. Holly, Ivy and Mistletoe are used to decorate homes or other buildings. Father Christmas or Santa Claus leaves presents in stockings or pillow-cases. Merry Christmas


Christmas is celebrated from the December 12th to January 6th. Feliz Navidad From December 16th to Christmas Eve, children often perform the 'Posada' processions or Posadas. Posada is Spanish for Inn or Lodging. There are nine Posadas.  In each Posada, children are given candles and a board, Nativity scenes , known as the nacimiento are very popular in Mexico. Christmas Eve is known as 'Noche Buena'


On December 28th Holy Innocents Day 'Día de los Inocentes' Songs and singing are very popular in Puerto Rico: Parrandas and Aguinaldos.  On 5th of January called 'Víspera de Reyes‘ Catholics go to church to pray the rosary to honor the Three Wisemen/Kings Music and singing of the 'parranderos‘and Nativity Scenes 'nacimientos' or 'pesebres' are also popular. Christmas Eve is known as 'Nochebuena‘ and Christmas Day as ‘Navidad' Feliz Navidad


The traditional meal for Western European families is turkey or ham with cranberry sauce . There are shops called ‘Christmas Shops' that only sell Christmas decorations and toys all the year round! Towns and cities in USA are decorated with lights: Rockerfeller Center. Merry Christmas


On the Orthodox Christmas Day (7th) people come together in homes for parties and festivities. People often take 'kahk' (special sweet biscuits) with them to give as gifts.   In Egypt,  Santa is called Baba Noël  Christmas Day isn't celebrated on the 25th December but on 7th January عيد ميلاد مجيد The Coptic month called Kiahk, 43 days before Christmas, people eat a vegan diet.  Children hope that Santa will climb through a window and will leave some presents B Y IRAIA , ENEKO AND ANER


JOYEUX NO ËL Joyeux Noël is Merry christmas in french 'Joyeux Noël'. The main Christmas Eve meal is called Réveillon. Yule logs are often burned in French homes By Urtzi, Aratz and Oihane In France,   Father Christmas  is called Père Noël and is accompanied by Le Pere Fouettard, a man dressed in black.
