Slide 2:Lifeline was founded in 1963 by Rev Dr Sir Alan Walker in Sydney. His vision was to develop a 24 hour telephone counselling service to provide a “mantle of care” for people who were hurting. Lifeline exists to strengthen the lives of individuals, families and communities through wide-ranging services which deliver enhanced access, efficiency and outcomes to the people who matter the most, its consumers. Lifeline’s History

Slide 3:Today, there are 42 Lifeline centres throughout Australia and over 200 centres throughout the world. The first Lifeline Centre opened on 16 March 1963, and today Lifeline takes over 500,000 calls per year throughout Australia.

Slide 11:Lifeline Centres raise up to 80% of their annual operating costs from fundraising and retail activities. The goods that you donate are resold in Lifeline Stores to raise funds to operate services such as the 24-hour our telephone counselling line and other very valuable community programs. Did you know???

Slide 12:at least 30 of these calls each and every day to Lifeline are people calling us with thoughts of suicide? That that is more than 10,000 calls every year that our dedicated volunteers provide unconditional support for. Whilst the community is showing support by donating or buying items from our 250 second hand goods shops around the country – the money we raise is simply not keeping up with the demand for our phone and community services.
