Nothing else will be allowed Noise – respect other library users by keeping noise levels down Library Opening Hours : Library Opening Hours Term Time Monday-Thursday 0900-2100 Friday 0900-2000 Saturday 0900-1700 Opening hours vary during the summer vacation These hours are due to change in early 2011 Oooo, those are extensive hours Cool. So when can I come along and see this fabulous place then? What you have access to : Excellent, very good. Now can we get onto the important part. Like what these good people can access. What you have access to Books Journals E-Resources Books and Journals : Books and Journals Books 10 standard loan books can be borrowed for a period of three weeks 3 short loan books can be borrowed for a period of seven days All books can be renewed up to ten times (if not reserved by other library users) Journals Reference access to print journals – cannot be borrowed Users can obtain a photocopy card Slide 11: So how do I go about finding these books and journals? Book Classification : Book Classification Spine Label Books in the library are divided into subjects Subjects are then each given a ‘classification’ Enables books to be located easily on the library shelves. National Library of Medicine classification – Alphanumeric system WS: Paediatrics 366: Paediatric Therapeutics CLI: Individual identification of book Searching the Catalogue : Searching the Catalogue Searching the catalogue - books : Searching the catalogue - books Searching the catalogue - journals : Searching the catalogue - journals Electronic Journals : Electronic Journals Many journals now available electronically Length of back issues varies Possible to get pre-published articles Several thousand titles Available via PCs in the library Searching the catalogue – e-journals : Searching the catalogue – e-journals Slide 18: But I can’t access the full text!!! Slide 19: Full text usually goes back to the mid 1990s – if it’s before this, you most likely won’t be able to access it We may not have a subscription to the journal electronically – always check the catalogue You can only access Imperial College subscriptions on a computer in the library Slide 22: Alright then. What if all your super resources have failed me and you haven’t got what I need. Well!? Inter-Library Loans are free All NHS staff are permitted a total of five ILLs per year If you need more, contact the library Secure Electronic Delivery Documents from the British Library can be sent direct to your PC desktop by registering for the Secure Electronic Delivery service For more information, check the library website Well that’s pretty good Slide 23: BUT WHAT IF I DON’T HAVE A LIST OF REFERENCES!!!??? They are all caused by a parasite. A single parasite! ...
