Overall Numbers Encyclopedia of American Shipwrecks by Bruce D. Berman District of Columbia to Nova Scotia over 4,600 vessels. 50 Gross Tons + Pre-Revolutionary to 1970 8 Years of Research = 50,000 + Does not include vessels less than 50 Gross Tons

Narrowing the Numbers: 

Narrowing the Numbers Out of the 4,600 wrecks - 100 are located in the waters of the Long Island Sound. On the 12365 Nautical Chart – “Oyster and Huntington Bay” waters – approximately 20 obstructions and 61 wrecks charted. Many of both are unidentified.

HISTORY & MISSION The UHRS – Underwater Historical Research Society was founded in 2004 by Adam Grohman and Andy Campbell. The mission of the UHRS –Research, Identify and Educate the public about underwater historical treasures. Currently there are 30 members, various sponsors and a dive team of 7 researchers & divers.
