history of the Alex Rash/Mila Richardson family was made possible by the collective efforts of many of their great-grandchildren. I must give special credit to the research contributed by Alan Rash and Danny Miller both of whom are now deceased. Alan is the grandson of Nathan Rash and Danny is the great grandson of Rettie Rash Yates. Debbie Rash Phipps and Dolly Duncan Richardson, are both granddaughters of James Albert (Jim) Rash. Ron Rash is the grandson of Nathan Rash. Nathan, Rettie, and Jim are all children of Alex and Mila Rash. Using Alan and Danny’s research, Debbie, Ron and Dolly have prepared the following documentation. Slide 223: The Rash name is said to be of German origin, but the Delaware state history says the Rash family is Welsh by descent. Using Ancestry.com, I found that Thomas John “James” Rash, is believed to be the founder of our branch of the Rash family. The Rash family is one of the oldest families in Delaware. They are remarkable for longevity with more than one of their members having been centenarians. Slide 224: John Rashe married Ann Parbine. Their son, Thomas John “James” Rashe, was said to have been born in Perton, Staffordshire, England, about 1638. He sailed from Wales to Delaware and settled in MurderKill Hundred, Kent County, Delaware, or what is now the Dover, Delaware, area. The Rash men were farmers by trade and were considered intelligent and reliable. They became influential in the district and prominent in political circles. Slide 225: In the early 1600’s a woman named Mary, surname unknown, married a man with surname Pardue. They had one son, Walter. After the death of Pardue, Mary Pardue married Thomas John “James” Rash. This couple had two sons: John and Joseph; and two daughters, Mary and Elizabeth Rash. After the death of Thomas John “James” Rash, Mary Pardue Rash married Timothy Thorrold or Thorel. There were no children from this marriage. Thus begins our branch of the Rash family. Slide 226: The Family of Aaron Alexander Rash And Mila Richardson Rash Alex Rash was born about 1859 in Iredell County, NC, to Asa Rash and Francis Barnett Rash. They lived North of Rocky Creek in Iredell County. By 1870 they had moved to Horse Creek in Ashe County, NC, and by 1880 the Asa Rash family was living on Staggs Creek. By 1880 Alex had married Mila Richardson and they were also living in Clifton with their son Jesse. Slide 227: Dedicated to the memories of all those who departed before us.
