BENGUET capital: La trinidad AREA and LOCATION BENGUET lies in the southernmost section of the Cordilleras. It is bounded by Pangasinan on the south, on the east by Ifugao and Nueva Vizcaya , on the north by Mountain Province, and on the west by La Union and Ilocos Sur. The province has an area of 260,648 hectares. GEOGRAPHIC PROFILE Benguet , like all Cordillera province, has a rugged mountainous terrain and is insulated from both the lowlands and the seas. HOW TO GET THERE Baguio City can be reached by bus via Marcos Highway, Naguilian Road or Kennon Road. Most Baguio-bound buses coming from Manila start plying their routes as early as four in the morning up to midnight. From Baguio there are buses going to other towns of Benguet .

The construction of the museum building was undertaken in 1982 on the 500 square meter lot, which was eventually donated on October 5, 1984 by Mrs. Cerila Taynan , a civic-minded citizen from Kabayan .

GEOGRAPHIC PROFILE Ifugao , the home of the famous Bananue Rice Terraces, has landscape dominated by extensive mountain ranges, with peaks as high as 2,500 meters. The Ifugao , who live on its slopes, where there is no level land on which to plant their crops, painstakingly transformed the mountainside with their hands into level upon level of rice paddies. The maountain contain lush forests and numerous rivers and waterfalls that drain into the lowlands valleys. Some historians balieve that the Ifugaos migrated from Indochina across southern Japan to Luzon then southward to Java because these are the only areas where rice terraces can be found.

How to get there Ifugao , particularly Banaue , can be reached using two different routes. One route is via Nueva Vizcaya where, the road turns left from the highway in Bagabag and passes through Lagawe before reaching Banaue . The other route is from Baguio through Bontoc via route but it offers more spectacular scenery.

How to get there The best way to reach Kalinga is through Tuguegarao City in Cagayan Province where highway links Tuguegarao and Tabuk . Travel time takes less than two hours.

Balbasang-balbalan national park balbalan Balbalasang-Balbalan National Park was declared by virtue of Proclamation No. 1357 dated December 9, 1974. It is proposed as an initial component of NIPAS under the category of Natural Biotic Area. The proposed Balbalasang-Balbalan National Park is composed of two mountain ranges with numerous creeks all draining towards the Saltan River, which divides the two ranges. It is characterized by high mountain ranges with steep slopes and rugged, rocky terrain. Mt Sapocoy , which is located on the western boundary of the park overlooking the Ilocos and Cagayan Valleys, is the highest peak at c.2,456 m. The lowest point in the park is at Balbalan in the eastern portion, with an elevation of c.700 m.
